Horizon Wimba

Introduction

Welcome to Horizon Wimba! This document provides you with essential information to access the Horizon Wimba site, run the technical setup wizard, and then enter into the Live Classroom environment. Please follow these steps in succession:

There are minimum technical requirements that need to be met in order to support Horizon Wimba. Please review these requirements before launching the technical setup.Participant Requirements

• Windows 98+, Mac OSX 10.2+ or Linux*
• 128 MB RAM (256 MB recommended)
• IE 5.0+, Netscape 7.0+, Mozilla 1.0+, Safari 1.1+ (Browser must be Java and JavaScript enabled)
• Internet access at 56k or above
• Speakers
• Microphone desirable* Mac OS9 and Linux have limited features and functionality.

Running the Wizard: Technical Setup

It is extremely important that all Students run the Wizard well in advance of your first Horizon Wimba Live Classroom session. Generally, users should run the Wizard at least a few days in advance of their first session.Horizon Wimba’s Wizard ensures that students are technically prepared to use the Live Classroom. It guides you through a series of tests, corresponding with different technical requirements. Provided that technical requirements do not change, users will only need to run the Wizard once.

Students should access the Wizard at: http://liveclassroom.horizonwimba.com/wizard/launcher.cgi

If you pass all the compatibility tests, try accessing the Live Classroom as instructed below.  If you did not pass all the compatibility tests, use the Wizard to update your computer. continued on back  

Logging In to Horizon Wimba Live Classroom

At the time of your live presentation, students may log into the Horizon Wimba Live Classroom as a Participant:

1. Go to http://liveclassroom.horizonwimba.com/launcher.cgi?room=gsc
   Your Live Classroom can also be found at: http://liveclassroom.horizonwimba.com/
2. When prompted, enter the following login information:

Room ID: gsc
Name: {your name}

1. If you have successfully completed the Wizard, click on the link located at the bottom of the screen in order to enter the Live Classroom lobby. (If you have not successfully completed the Wizard, please do so now prior to entering the Live Classroom lobby.)
2. Once inside the lobby, select the Granite State College link to enter your Live Classroom.

Note: Once you have begun your Live Classroom session, your instructor may choose to utilize the voice chat feature. If you do not have a microphone, and would like to participate in the voice chat session, you may use your telephone in the same manner as a conference call. To use this option, first select the telephone icon located above the chat window in your Live Classroom. You will be presented with a phone number (1-646-367-1174) and PIN that is valid only for that session. Simply call the number and enter the PIN when prompted. A tone will sound indicating that you have successfully connected with the Live Classroom session.  Please be aware that standard long distance changes will appear on your phone bill.
